What is hair-quality improvement (kamishitsu kaizen) treatment? How it differs from regular treatment
A hair-quality improvement treatment works on the internal structure of each hair to fundamentally improve feel and manageability. That's a different approach from a typical salon treatment, which mainly coats the surface.
A good fit if
- Drugstore treatments and basic salon treatments no longer satisfy you
- Frizz, dryness, or unmanageable volume are getting worse year over year
- You don't want a Japanese straight perm but you do want easier-to-style hair
You may want a different option if
- You want strong, fully straight hair — a Japanese straight perm is more reliable
- You have heavy split or broken ends — a clean cut should come first
What a session looks like
- Consultation — review damage history, type of waviness, and your daily care routine
- Shampoo & pre-treatment — clear residual product so the active ingredients can penetrate
- Application — apply a formulation tailored to your hair, working ingredients into the cortex
- Heat & rest — heat helps active ingredients absorb
- Finish — flat-iron to set, blow-dry, and check the result
Total time: ~90–150 minutes (varies by length and condition)

Notes
- Some guests see dramatic change in one session; others need several before the result lands
- For 24–48 hours after treatment, avoid tying or tucking your hair behind the ears (creases set easily)
- If you notice any irritation on your scalp or skin, please discontinue and consult a medical professional.
Frequently asked
Q: How is this different from a typical salon treatment? A: A regular salon treatment coats the hair's surface for better feel and lasts about 2–3 weeks. A hair-quality improvement treatment acts on the bonds inside the cortex — results last 1–2 months and stack with each repeat session.
Q: How does it differ from a Japanese straight perm? A: A straight perm cuts and re-bonds the hair to remove waves entirely; the result is fully straight but with significant damage. Hair-quality improvement preserves softness while making hair more manageable, with less damage — though it can't fully straighten very strong waves.
Q: Can I do this on the same day as color or perm? A: Often yes, depending on your hair's condition. If your hair is freshly bleached or extremely damaged, we may recommend spacing the appointments.
