Salon headspa vs. dry-headspa specialty store — what's different?
The biggest difference is whether water and shampoo are used. A salon headspa (including ours at Mori no Hibi) combines shampoo and treatment to remove buildup and add hydration. A dry headspa skips water entirely and focuses on hand-only massage. The right choice depends on whether your goal is scalp care or pure relaxation.
A good fit if
- You can't decide between a wet headspa and a dry one
- You want pore-level cleansing as part of the experience (wet)
- You want a head-to-toe relax without disturbing makeup or styling (dry)
You may want a different option if
- Your main complaint is shoulder or whole-body tension — consider chiropractic or body massage
- Your top priority is sleep improvement — look at sleep-focused dry headspa courses
What a session looks like

- Treatment & blow-dry — final styling
Dry headspa — typical

- Done — leave straight away
Total time: wet 60–90 min / dry 30–60 min
Pricing
| Type | Price range (tax incl.) | Duration | |------|------------------------|----------| | Forest Headspa 60min (wet) | ¥8,800 | 60 min | | Forest Headspa 90min (wet) | ¥11,800 | 90 min | | Dry headspa (market range) | ¥3,000–8,000 | 30–60 min |
Notes
- A dry headspa won't remove pore buildup or deliver treatment ingredients
- Wet headspa requires drying time afterward
- Some dry-headspa storefronts don't require a hairdresser license — quality varies
- If you notice any irritation on your scalp or skin, please discontinue and consult a medical professional.
Frequently asked
Q: For scalp care, which is better? A: A wet headspa, hands down. If you want comprehensive cleansing, hydration, and circulation in one visit, the wet version delivers a higher score on scalp care. At Mori no Hibi we combine hydrogen-shampoo cleansing with massage so the result lands consistently.
Q: Is dry headspa more relaxing? A: It's not strictly true. Some dry-headspa stores advertise "90% sleep rate" — but plenty of our wet-headspa guests fall asleep too. The warm water and quiet sound add a different layer of relaxation.
Q: Can I do both? A: Yes — the goals differ, so combining them is reasonable. Some guests do a monthly wet headspa for serious scalp care and slot in a dry headspa when fatigue spikes.
